Robert Raymen, Last Post 23/11 is correct about Hamas' ceasefires.' It is imperative merely to understand what these multi - headed hydra of terrorist groups / associates say and do.

1. Never mind that the word 'treaty' will never leave any of their lips. Nor will 'ceasefire'. After all they cannot have any communication with a democracy they proudly promulgate in their constitution to swear to destroy.
   Hamas instead vouchsafes a mere ''period of calm'' - waiting for their 'military wing' or one of their dozens of acolytes to force a reaction to terror [by another euphemised way] from Israel.
   
   
   And Lo! You have an incipient excuse - to end to their mellifluous, outrageous 'period of calm.'
2. Anyone care to study the Treaty of Hadaybiyya? It explains a lot about their version of treaties!
3. Hamas proudly target children and schools or Pizza parlours: after all they grow up to be soldiers, non?
4. Then they use civilians as cover and draw the inevitable tragedies. Note their proudly- admitted self - claimed nomenclature of ''usefull idiots'' - a la Stephen Morgan Letters 23/11. He is like too many in this post - modernist world - wilfully blind. Nay, disingenuous. Mass - murder thus becomes easily reconfigured by those who so inelegantly claim Lenin's title; those who perennially use an earlier nonsense excuse alleged injustices as justification.
5. It is merely a simplistic abuse of the childish chicken / egg excuse: using a reaction / self defence as an excuse. Then rewrite history to 1967, 1948 or even their reconfiguring of the Balfour Declaration. Indeed anything will do so long as you keep moving the goalposts - and never have to justify any of it! Indeed you will not – given peoples’ attention span.
6. Their problem however is that history will tell the truth - no matter how they attempt to rewrite it as having been / will be written by the winners!

Verily I partly, largely blame - the left's reconfiguration / euphemisation of the terrorist word with dozens of outrageous ameliorations are possible only in a world where people have chosen to have no time to think - being ensconced in social media discussion of breakfast and what sadly results from their primary / fundamental orifice!

Indeeed the left have been succesfull in rewriting the dictionary, but history will disable their pathetic screed. Even if the Macquarie dictionary continues their co operation with rewriting the misogyny word.

Within an hour of the ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian terror groups of Gaza coming into effect, 12 rockets had been fired into Israel. I guess it's unreasonable to expect Hamas and the other terror cells to honour a ceasefire.

IF anyone had any doubts about the sort of people Israel is up against, they need only look at the images of the body of a murdered, suspected Israeli collaborator being dragged through the streets of Gaza City behind a motorcycle.

However, I wouldn't expect Israel's critics on the political Left in Australia and elsewhere to even begin to re-evaluate their position. Their wilful prejudice against Israel is so manic they can seemingly rationalise away any atrocities committed by Hamas and the rest of the terrorists who thrive in the tragedy of that tortured part of the world.

MALVINA Malinek refers to the useful idiots in the democratic West who put pressure on Israel (Letters, 22/11). As one of those idiots, I'm glad to see the approach I have advocated is now bearing fruit: we have a ceasefire, but more importantly we have Israel agreeing to reconsider its position on Gaza and the blockade it imposes on civilians there.

Stopping Hamas firing rockets into Israel is only a start. Stopping Palestinians supporting such organisations would be the real game-changer.

One way to do that is for Israel to show that it has more respect for Gazans than the Islamist extremists. Indiscriminate bombings and harmful and arbitrary blockades certainly aren't the way to achieve that, and any move to undo these policies will be good for Gazans and Israelis.
